Today is #GivingTuesday!
In the age of social media, we are all used to new and made-up holidays – National Emoji Day, Pizza Remembrance Day, and so on and so on. But ‘Giving Tuesday’ is a social media holiday that we think is worth keeping. Nothing could be timelier than a day to remember the importance of sowing back into your community and giving back.
#GivingTuesday refers to the Tuesday after Thanksgiving in the United States. It is a hashtag activist movement to create an international day of charitable giving at the beginning of the Christmas and holiday season. In 2017, non-profits, schools, businesses, and individuals from all 50 states raised $274 million in online donations on this hashtag holiday. This ‘socially good’ movement is mobilizing a millennial audience to inspire the spirit of giving by making it digitally accessible to everyone.
Our community organization reaches from Jacksonville’s local public parks to the homeless shelters, as we continue to hold free workshops and classes as well as ‘survival pack’ giveaways for the less fortunate. Our organization was designed to make a difference in our community, one person at a time, and our donations are no different – each person makes a difference.
So – on a day like today when social good has won out and even large Fortune 500 companies have found a soft spot in their pocket, Jump4Jax is asking for your donation. We are a community nonprofit with a keen focus on youth wellness and development; we believe that through double-dutch, we can lean into the at-risk pockets of our community and tap into true potential – instilling responsibility, confidence and determination in all our participants, young or old.
If you’d like to help Jump4Jax reach our goal of teaching 5,000 kids to double-dutch by the end of 2019, go to our Facebook page and donate or visit our website and make a contribution via PayPal – no amount is too small.
